But why oh why do they have to do this:

I mean, this IS precisely my area of interest and thus it is a must.
So much for going to new places. :|

The Romantic Lover 59% partner focus, 61% aggressiveness, 50% adventurousness | Based on the results of this test, it is highly likely that:
You prefer your romance and love to be traditional rather than daring or out-of-the-ordinary, you would rather pursue than be pursued and, when it comes to physical love, your satisfaction comes more from providing a wonderful time to your partner than simply seeking your own.
This places you in the Lover Style of: The Romantic Lover.
The Romantic Lover is a wonderful Lover Style, and is the hallmark of young love--the Romantic Lover often loves the idea of being in love, and being a wonderful lover, and so they try to bring their prospective partners every bit of joy or happiness that they can. They are the serenaders, and the ones to rent carriages in the park or take a gondola ride down a canal. The Romantic Lover is a treasure to find, though they sometimes are prone to being hurt if their advances are ignored or harshly rebuffed.
In terms of physical love, the Romantic Lover can seem shy, but usually it is simply a by-product of wanting to be perfect for their lover, and often needs some extra encouragement and re-assurance to truly feel at ease. Given a special, intimate evening, and the right lover, the Romantic Lover can be a delight in bed.
Best Compatibility can probably be found with: The Classic Lover (most of all) or the Suave Lover, or the Exotic Lover.
Congratulations!

| | Julieta Venegas | ] | ...passwords does it take to make you lose your mind?
C=0
Let's see. Say you have only one email address (You could in principle have more, but Gmail promises to do the dirty job for you).
C=1.
Now, how many different types of internet based services can you think of? For how many of those do you have an account? Say, Bank accounts, internet gaming webpages, stores, instant messengers, dating pages, your favorite porn provider, obscure clubs, cell phones, etc.
Is having a single password for all of the above (except perhaps emails) a good idea?
Even if you think so, some of these places might require that you update your password frequently to increase their security measures. Some of them simply expect that you log in and click on the corresponding 'update' button and that's it. Some of them actually verify that the 'new' password is a different one from the previous one.
C=2 or more
Some of these places actually keep track of a certain number of passwords you have used and further force you to use a different one from all n previous ones....
C=C+periodic updates.
Now, you have a nice set of passwords (everybody suggests that you should memorize them and refrain from writing them due to security bullshit) in your mind. Say, as it is certainly my case, your memory is not so good. Say you are actually able to remember all C passwords but fail to remember correctly which one to use in each case. A lot of these internet places have an additional security feature that prevents you from making a mistake enough times.
The crappy ones will simply block you account for the following century (till you call the service provider directly or something). Damn!
The not so crappy ones have at least one implemented method of password retrieval.... an email account (which requires yet another password) or answering a predetermined question. AH! more things to remember.
Some of these places will tell you your password via email and that's it. Others will reset the password and ask you to provide a new one....
By now, you can probably show that C is the cardinality of the continuum. |

Book meme: Grab the nearest book. Open it to page 161. Find the fifth sentence. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions. Don't search around and look for the coolest book you can find. Do what's actually next to you.
"For compact simply connected and oriented 4-manifolds, Poincaré duality shows that the entire homology is contained in the structure of $H_2(M,\mathbb{Z})$ (which is isomorphic to $H^2(M,\mathbb{Z})$) if one knows moreover the type (signature) of the quadratic form $$H^2(M,\mathbb{Z})\times H^2(M,\mathbb{Z})\rightarrow\mathbb{Z}$$ given by $$\omega_0,\omega_1\mapsto\int_M\omega_0\wedge\omega_1.$$
WOW! That was cool. |

| | none —listening to the landlady complain outside my room. | ] | Well, that's the title they (Who?) gave to the movie 'Soylent Green'. It's literal translation means something like When destiny reaches us. I have never been able to understand why some translations are so different from the original (I mean, the spanish version is some sort of a spoiler.)
Never mind.
About a year ago, María Elena and I started to talk about the possibility of putting our distance relationship on hold. After several months negotiating it was decided to do so. This happened at some point last summer. Ever since, we have continued to be sort of best friends but technically nothing else. I has been hard but the tough part is over now.
She has being going out again and so have I (or at least kinda, since last summer). About two months and a half ago, I met an Argentinian girl in a dance class ( like the one kiwisquash slept through once—the class, not the girl). We went out a couple of times and then winter break paused everything.
We kept the email communication and things were clearly beginning to curdle. :-)
I came back and we have being seeing each other as often as possible. What is the meaning of the phrase "going steady"? I really don't now these dating terms in English, nor the actual phase of the relationship.
Ah!, her name: Irene. |

Well... As some of you know, things didn't go exactly as planned...however, they went much better.
It so happened that Mark de Cataldo had being considering the posibility of dumping me. He neglected to do so till the very end, when it was clear to everybody that I was not really into the kind of math he was leading me towards. As both Dror and myself put it completely independently of each other: That math was not touching my heart.
So, after being failed in the Orals (yes, If Mark would've wanted me to work with him the committee would have not failed me), I was amazingly relieved and happy again.
After a few technical considerations and talking to some faculty members, it seems that I will be working with Detlef in things related to my undergrad research (but now much more seriously and complicated, I imagine); that is cohomogeneity one people (perhaps with non negative curvature). He already told me to read a few things over the break.
I'm really excited about this. I have been thinking of what hausdorffspace mentioned that he felt that fateful moment we all remember and that ended up being (precisely as he told me) the best thing that could've happened at that time. I think I truly understand him now.
On other events, today I taught Jamie's class so that he could be elsewhere having (or so he might claim) more fun. I remember how much I enjoy teaching...even when the students are (as always) not very responsive. |

| Ce n'est pas une pipe! and the promise of a not very guided but very VIP visit to a gaybar next week |
[Aug. 12th, 2006|05:36 pm] |
Yesterday I smoked flavoured (!) tobacco from a pipe. It was a very pleasant experience; not as invasive as cuban cigars (and yet with the nice flavor) and not at all bad as a standard cigarette. I am glad that in the US it is not as easy (ask M.Anderson) to smoke in public places, etc. because the experience was VERY pleasant (and I suppose very addictive too.).
On the other hand, the same friend that provided the pipe works as a photographer for several companies. One of which is a new gay magazine AND, apparently so, they are organizing a special feast to celebrate the coming to be of the magazine in a top notch gay bar. I'm truly looking forward to being invited...since I always finding amusing to exercise my gaydar.
Besides, as electrichobbit would say, my music preferences are gayer than his, so I should be also amused in that sense. I've been wanting to go to one for several days now, but I wouldn't want to go alone and my girlfriend is not very keen on the idea; hence I suggested it to my friend and he said 'NO, but' and then told me about the inaugural celebration.
He's a bit weird in general. A common friend always describes him, as well as meeting with him, as an intense experience. Some time ago, he was very conservative in his political perspective and very homophobic. Now his is a flagrant communist and just mildly homophobic. Nevertheless, I felt he was the one that could actually agree to go with me to a gay bar.
Looking foward. |

My beloved laptop was in desperate need of a profound checkup... the DVD burner died (as you might recall) and we had to wait for several weeks to receive the new one.
Now, my precious is back with me!!!! Now I have to finish configuring it AGAIN! :/ |
